Well Screen

The well screen is the generic category of Tetristeel’s sand control products involving:
1. Slotted pipe
2. Perforated pipe
3. Wire-wrapped screen
4. Prepacked (gravel-pack) screen

We Tailor Well Screens to Your Needs

Slotted pipe, is the slotted casing or liner that is used in the pay zone to prevent gravel and sand from dropping into the well and being produced. It allows water, oil or gas through the wall while keeping bigger foreign matters outside and is especially useful for horizontal wells.

The slot is cut through by laser with faster production but less cost than conventional saw cutting, and commonly straight or keystone shaped with paralleled or staggered array. Slots per meter / ft, open area, width and length are the key specs for machining.

Perforated pipe, frequently used in oil and gas well completion or underground drainage systems, is designed for the casing string or pipeline with small holes to control the passthrough of solid, liquid or gas. It regulates fluid flow rate and filtration, and also can provide support in mesh combined screen.

Another application is for the barrel of perforating gun, which is used on the bottom of tubing string to create openings through the casing and cement before production. The perforation is also drilled through with laser, but still with multi spindle drill press if specified. Same as slotted pipe, the explicitly provided hole number per meter / ft, diameter, phasing and open area percentage are prerequisite for the drill.

The regular wire-wrapped screen for plugging resistance presents a keystone-shaped stainless steel wrap wire on round rib wires and welded to ring at each end.

The screen is fabricated on special wrapping machines with the wrapped wire to form helical slots of desired width, enabling more inflow than slotted pipe. The screen can by option be subsequently placed over to a perforated steel pipe base, which provides improved structural support.

Johnson Type Wire-wrapped Screen

Prepacked screen is the modification of conventional wire-wrapped screen that features gravel pack or large-grained sand in the annular ring between two screens (dual-screen prepack), one inner screen and one outer shroud (single-screen prepack) or pipe base and one outer screen (low-profile prepack).

The gravel pack acts as filtering media as well and can be resin coated or uncoated. The size and layer thickness of gravel are dependently constructed on different well conditions, such as formation size and flow rate etc., which make the screens Tetristeel supplies highly customizable pursuant to client’s unique requirement.
